It has been developed for horse owners who not only wish to see their horse’s hooves shine but also to proactively protect against bacterial growth. Silver kills an astonishing range of microbes (bacteria and fungi) within minutes of application. Although it is widely known that silver prevents the growth of many bacteria and fungi, we wanted to prove this ourselves before making claims regarding a new product’s antimicrobial activity. This is due to the large number of differences between horse hooves, stable and field conditions which makes comparison difficult.We therefore conducted experiments in an approved microbiological laboratory. All samples tested were obtained from horses with clinically diagnosed hoof thrush and therefore were representative of the exact microbes we are trying to eliminate. This is the first time that silver ion technology has been available in a product designed for equine hooves. Experiments conducted in an approved laboratory showed that Silverfeet virtually eliminated the growth of bacteria sampled from infected hooves following 3 hours of exposure. Additional experiments involving fungi showed similar results.
